Siberian huskies have a beautiful double coat which they will "blow" twice a year. Be prepared for never ending doggy hair. The Siberian is a natural dog, they self-clean remarkably well and need few bath's per year, with the exception being for conformation dogs.
Smart, stubborn, loyal, talkative and independent. Huskies are pack animals and prefer to be amongst a pack. They do not do well isolated and alone for long periods of time. Huskies are not guard dogs, they will love everyone who comes into your home, including intruders. They can be tough to train and are excellent escape artists. Huskies fit best with confident, experienced dog owners who set rules and deliver consistency.
Our dogs run for hours per day. Are you ready, able and willing to provide them the time and space they require to do what they love?
Huskies are medium sized dogs and are part of the working class dog group. Weight range for females is 35lbs - 50lbs and 45lbs - 60lbs for males. Average height for females is 20 - 22 inches and 21 - 23.5 inches for males. Huskies have a 12 to 15 year life expectancy and are generally a healthy breed. It is however recommended by the National Breed club to preform a hip evaluation at 2 years of age and to have an ophthalmologist evaluation annually.
Training a husky requires hard work and patients. Things will not always go as planned but consistency is key. Training your Siberian may take weeks, if not months, to achieve. As always, early socialization is key to developing a balanced temperament. All of our puppies are raised inside of our home along side our family and children. This socialization is critical to their developing temperament.
Feeding high quality dog food with the right balance of protein and nutrition is key to a healthy coat and skin. While it is important to regulate their meals, huskies can thrive and survive off of minimal food, as it is one of their breed characteristics. Free feeding is possible with huskies but we have found it best to instill a consistent schedule with our dogs. Dogs thrive off of consistency.
